Types of laptop screen

There are two types of laptop screen. Some faults will only affect one type of screen. Below are some outlines details of the two types of screen which can be present in identical models of laptops.

LED Screen

Led backlight laptop screens are the newest type of screen. They do not require an inverter in order the ignite the display and are traditionally about 20% cheaper than the older CCFL type. An LED screen has one connector to the laptop motherboard.

CCFL LCD

The older and more expensive type of laptop LCD screen. It has two connectors, one of which connects to the inverter which is the starter for the strip light behind the screen.

The process

Most laptop screen replacements are carried out at our main workshop, however a screen replacement can be carried out on site at the customers location by prior appointment. The process can take up to one hour.

Lead times

Most laptops, about 80% fit into around a dozen different screen types. Over the years there has been hundreds of different screens. We hold in stock about 90% of these screen types and can usually replace a screen within 24 hours. If a particular screen is needed to be sourced then the lead time will be 48-72 hours.

Pricing

Laptop screen prices vary considerably. The variance would be from £35 to £295. The average cost of a screen replacement is approximately £85-£95 including fitting and vat.
